About Linda Nazareth

Linda Nazareth is an economist, author, television broadcaster and speaker.

Since 1999, Linda has been the in-house economist for Business News Network (BNN), the business cable arm of CTV (Canada’s biggest private sector broadcaster). Daily she covers the economic news of the day on-air, looking at the markets and the economic indicators and giving viewers analysis and context.  Linda was one of the first economists to accurately warn of the global recession and its likely severity.

Linda is the author of two books,  the first of which The Ever After Effect: Waking Up From the “Boom” Years (Winding Stair Press, 2001) was called “the first important book on the 1990s stock market boom” and “one of best books of the year on the Canadian economy”. In 2007 her book The Leisure Economy (Wiley) was released in the U.S. and Canada.  Detailing what she sees as a sea change for the North American economy, the book looks at how a ‘time-crunch economy’ is turning into ‘the leisure economy’ and what that will mean for consumers, investors, businesses, and policy-makers. Linda has also been published in many other publications including the Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper and is a regular contributor to the BNN blog.  Her own website, www.relentlesseconomics.com fills an almost-empty niche combining analysis of economics, labor markets, demographics and generational issues.

Prior to joining BNN, Linda was a Senior Economist with CIBC, where she spent ten years honing her analytic skills and becoming a sought-after speaker and media commentator. Earlier in her career she was an economist with the federal government where she specialized in demographic and labor market forecasting.

Linda holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Arts in Economics, both from the University of Toronto. She speaks frequently to business groups, translating economic forecasts into information that can be used for their planning purposes.
